HISTORY
St. Colum’s Camogie Club was formed on 27th April 2009 at a meeting hosted by Deirdre Murphy, the Munster Regional Coordinator from Camogie Ireland. A Committee was formed on the night who met regularly and set up the Registration and Launch Night for the new Camogie Club on the 22nd May 2009 for all new members and interested parties. About sixty members registered that first night. Also that evening, Cork Senior Camogie players Rena Buckley and Catríona Foley came and demonstrated some skills for the girls and brought the O’ Duffy Cup.
There was training for the trainers too – in July that year they were very grateful that Cork Ladies trainer Eamon Ryan came and completed a coaching course with the committee members and trainers. They have been regularly updating their training since then.
The girls worked very hard in the first year training from June up until November. Not only did the girls learn new camogie skills that first year but more importantly they made new friends and had great fun! Another highlight during the first year was the fundraising table quiz held which was a highly entertaining evening and was very successful.
