2010 SEASON

The girls and trainers commenced a very extensive training programme this year beginning in the early springtime with indoor training. The under-8 and under-10 panels trained on a Monday evening and the under-12 and under-14 panels trained on a Wednesday evening.

This past season has been hectic on all fronts. The committee members and trainers have met regularly and worked hard on behalf of more than 65 registered members of the Camogie Club. Vital sponsorship for jerseys has been secured and a number of club events held. We are so grateful to our sponsors - Under -8 & 10; Rowa and Rowex Ltd, Pharmaceuticals, Newtown, Bantry & Allied Fire Protection, Ardnatrush, Glengarriff and Under 12 & 14 - The Brick Oven, The Square, Bantry.

Highlights from the season so far would include the Parish Blitz that was held over a number of weeks in May and culminated in a grand final in the club hall on May 16th last. All the games played were very competitive and thoroughly enjoyed by the players and spectators alike. Each player received a medal to mark their participation. Special thanks to Finishing Touches@Bantry Blossoms for the sponsorship of these medals. Following that on Saturday the 5th June 2010 the Under-8 and Under-10 panels travelled to the cork city club Na Piarsaigh to a Cork Camogie Blitz with other teams travelling from all over Cork county including Carrigtwohill, Blarney, Bandon and Youghal. The girls gained valuable experience and earned a well deserved stop at McDonalds on the way home.

Then in July the Under-12 and Under-14 panels travelled to watch the Cork Senior Camogie team play at Pairc Uí Chaoimh. They arrived decked out in their St Colum’s colours and provided strong vocal support to their Cork team. Afterwards, they were provided with the VIP treatment when they got to meet some of the Cork players and have jerseys signed. This gave them a wonderful taste of what the future may hold if they stick with camogie!

In late July, the Under-8 players took on their counterparts in St Colum Óg's in a "Go Game" Blitz in St. Colums. Two sets of matches ran concurrently with all players getting a chance to play in different zones. All players were magnificent playing with heart, dedication and displaying their great skills that they have been learning in training over many weeks. A fantastic morning was had by all and all the trainers wish to thank the many parents who came along to show their support.

The Camogie Club was involved with running the Summer Camp held at the Club over three days in August which was a great success. The organisers were delighted that Mary O' Connor joined us on the first day and Alan O'Connor came to end the camp on a high of red fever on the final day. Mary O' Connor is a dual player for Cork and she took the participants through a range of skills and passed on her great advice. All the children came on the Saturday in red in white in honour of their clubman Alan O' Connor he passed on his advice on skills and training and told all the participants to keeping practising and hard work pays off. He is a testament to that! The camogie club was delighted to be involved and hopefully it will become an annual event.

THE CLUB WAS DELIGHTED WITH THE CORK FOOTBALL TEAM'S SUCCESS IN THE ALL IRELAND IN SEPTEMBER 2010. WE EXTEND OUR CONTINUED CONGRATULATIONS TO ALAN O'CONNOR AND ALL THE CORK TEAM ON THEIR ALL IRELAND WIN FROM ALL OF US AT ST. COLUMS CAMOGIE CLUB
