Sun. Nov 20th U-16 County Football i Final v Western Gaels at 12pm in Ballingeary ( a victory by 3-11 - 3-7)
On Sunday last in Ballingeary the clubs u-16 team completed an historic and unprecedented county double after victory over Western Gaels in Ballingeary. It has been a fantastic year for the underage club but this was probably the finest display of all. It was a fabulous performance of disciplined purposeful and methodical football and they justifiably claimed victory. St.Colums started brightly with two early points from Conor Ellis and Jamie O Leary but Western Gaels sored 1-2 without reply to open up a three point gap. However St.Colums dominated the remainder of the half and were sharp enthusiastic and utterly focused on disrupting Westtern Gaels developing any further momentum. Pressure was ever present and Colums laid the foundations for victory with a scintillating fifteen minutes prior to the break. Connor Ellis dispatched two balls to the back of the net with aplomb while Jamie O Leary, Andrew Goggin and Jamie O Leary shared a series of points. St.Colums were full value for a 2-8 to 1-3 interval lead ..It was expected that Western Gaels would come more into it in the second half and this duly happened. However the Colums lads did dig deep and some inspirational second half points from Ben Murphy and Kevin Murphy raised large cheers from the Colums faithful and put Colums in a good position to close out the game. Western Gaels did reduce the Colums lead to three points with seven minutes remaining 2-10 to 2-7. It seemed like the game would now go down to the wire but Connor Ellis completed his hat trick shortly afterwards and St.Colums despite the concession of a late goal held out for a 3-11 to 3-7 victory.
This team is blessed with a fantastic goalkeeper.Stephen Holland in goal made some superb saves in the second half and got the ball out of the danger area with the minimum of fuss and was largely aided by Mark O Connor and Liam Cunney in this regard. Both gave tenacious displays of corner back play. Much of this teams success all year has been built on its half back line of Ben Murphy, Eddie O Sullivan and Kevin Murphy and this trio produced the goods again. Eddie O Sullivan gave a masterful display of intelligent football with his clever reading of the game and general positioning anticipating danger at all times. Ben Murphys general strength on the ball made him the epitome of secure tidying up all day while Kevin Murphy consistently supplied excellent ball in to opposition territory Eoin Cronin gave an energetic and extremely effective display in midfield and stymied Western Gaels attacking options. Jamie McSweeney gave another storming display with an exhibition of fielding the ball out of the sky. Andrew Goggin and Shane O Mahony off loaded ball and transferred position slickly and at speed in to the full forward line while also contributing with some valuable scores of their own. Jamie O Leary was a hive of activity gathering ball and taking on the defence, both finishing and building attacks in a great performance. Connor Ellis led the Colums attack in cavalier style with some cracking finishes to his goal opportunities and a unique hat trick in a county final. Indeed all Colums forward covered back and worked their chops off to close down the Gaels and this work ethic was a testimony to the hard work and team spirit generated by team trainers Teddy O Mahony, Tim O Sullivand and Tom O Connor all year. Team Captain Eoin Cronin accepted the cup from Jonathon Hoare of Coiste na nóg to the rapturous applause of the great Colums support. Colums are delighted with this victory but Western Gaels must also be congratulated on a fine sporting display and they played their part in a fine contest. 2011 will be remembered fondly by this group of players but it will hopefully be only the start of many more in the future.

Sun Sep 25th U-16 County Hurling Final v Banteer in Macroom at 2.30pm ( a victory by 2-10 - 2-7)
A Fantastic year for the St.Colums underage club continued in Macroom on Sunday last when the clubs u-16 hurlers annexed the county hurling title after a 2-10 to 2-7 victory over Banteer in a very exciting decider. St.Colums with the aid of a noticeable breeze started very brightly with Jamie O Leary finding the net within the opening few minutes. Shane O Mahony was the dominant forward in the first half and was troubling the Banteer defense with purposeful runs at every oppurtunity. He seemed to score after every attack. A Mean spirited Colums half back line coupled with Eoin Cronins dominance at midfield meant Banteer struggled to get a foothold in the game. A second Jamie O Leary goal meant Colums entered the break with a 2-6 to 0-2 advantage. Colums crucially started the second half brightly and when Eddie O Sullivan pointed an exquisite sideline cut it appeared that they might maintain their control of the game. Banteer to their credit fought gallantly and a quarter hour of Banteer dominance reduced the deficit to three points with ten minutes remaining. Eddie O Sullivan and Ben Murphy must take much of the credit for stemming the tide and some powerful clearances and clever play got the Colums machine working again as they held out for a famous victory. Gearóid O Sullivan scored a point which put Colums four up and essentially clinching the game as Colums held out for a famous victory. Jamie McSweeney was again very commanding in goal with some fantastic clearances. Fineen Wycherley, Mark O Connor and Brian O Connell were very steady in the back line througout the hour while Andrew Goggin got on a lot of ball and linked the play very well. The goal hero of the West Cork final Pat Daly played some very clever hurling throughout. Captain Ben Murphy accepted the cup and thanked his three coaches Teddy O Mahony, Timmy O Sullivan and Tom O Connor for their selfless work with the team all year as well as the continued support of sponsors Mick Cremins coaches..Team - Jamie McSweeney, Fineen Wycherley, Mark O Connor, Eddie O Sullivan (0-2), Ben Murphy, Brian O Connell, Eoin Cronin, Andrew Goggin(0-1) Gearoid O Sullivan (0-1), Jamie O Leary (2-0), Pat Daly, Shane O Mahony (0-6). Glengarriff got off to the brighter start with two early points but a Denis McSweeney goal after a Pronsias Cronin effort rebounded off the post seemed to ease Colums into the game. Both teams traded scores for the rest of the half and entered the break even at 1-3 to 0-6. Denis was in scintillating form all day and continued to trouble the Glengarriff defense throughout. The game was in the balance until the closing stages but two late points by Sean O Shea and Ricky Peters gave Colums the cushion to close out the game. Sat. 23rd October - Naomh Colum Óg Under 8's held their end of season event when they had a final hurling game against their friends in the Camogie Club Under 8's. The rain held off and the large group were divided into two matches - an Under 7 match and an Under 8 match. These matches ran simultaneously and were both very well supported by family and friends. It was a great occasion and it was a great exhibition of the skills learned by all over the past season. Afterwards, for fun the parents and supporters took to the field in a men v ladies contest and it was assessed that the ladies just shaded that contest ! Then there were fantastic refreshments of pizza and chips in the Hall for everyone. A big thank you to Tom Farley and Rory Doody for all the work put end with the Under 8's over the past season.
Sun. Oct 17th - The u-14 footballers completed a league and championship double after defeating Baryroe by 5-14 to 5-10 in Newcestown. The team lost only one of nine games in the league this year and were deserving champions for 2010.

The 8 year olds met, the 7 year olds played and the 5 and 6 year olds displayed their talents. They were cheered on by their trainers, parents and supporters. Afterwards, hands were sportingly shaken, the referees were thanked and plans were made for a return visit. Thanks to Darren and all at Muintir Bháire.

Sun 29th August U-14 Football Final v Barryroe in Castletown Kenneigh at 12am. ( the final was won by 4-8 to 2-9)
St. Colums u-14 footballers annexed the South West title in Castletown-Kenneigh by defeating Barryroe by 4-9 to 3-8. It was a great win by a fine group of talented footballers. The opening ten minutes found both teams trying to find their rythmn with both teams only registering a goal apeice. The Colums goal came courtesy of Connor Ellis.St.Colums dominated much of the first half playing with the breeeze but struggled to put the scores on the board which their outfield play deserved. A goal by Jamie McSweeney did help St.Colums into a 2-5 to 1-1 lead before Barryroe replied and brought it back to 2-5 to 2-2 before the interval. Barryroe started confidently in the second half and it seemed that they had the greater momentum when they raced into a 2-7 to 2-6 midway through the second half. St.Colums were struggling to produce some of the football they produced during the summer but must be given great credit for lifting their heads when the match was entering the critical phase. A goal by Connor Ellis after great combined play between Declan Meaney and Jamie McSweeney reignited the Colums challenge and this was reinforced when Declan Meaney scored his own major shortly afterwards. Barryroe did reply with a goal of their own but the Colums lads held firm and ran out winners of an exciting contest by 4-8 to 3-9. The Colums victory was testament to the strength of their panel and all substitues contributed to this victory and all the victories during the course of the year. Ailil Brosnan was very assured in goal . Stephen Holland gave a real captains performance in the full back line and led by example throughout after missing much of the year through injury. Indeed St.Colums were well served in the defensive department all year and Ian Hurley, Fineen Wycherley, Kevin Murphy, Pat Daly, Liam Cunney and Darren Murphy can be very proud of their efforts. Eddie O Sullivan and Declan Meaney worked tirelessly in midfield. Connor Ellis and Jamie McSweeney provided much of the scores on the day but Darren Manning, Brian O Connell, Paudie O Connor and Gavin Dineen layed no small part in linking up for most of those scores. The Colums lads will now face either Barryroe or Argideen Rangers in the league decider in the coming weeks. Scorers - Connor Ellis 2-4, Jamie McSweeney 1-2, Eddie O Sullivan 0-2, Kevin Murphy 0-1.

Thur 5th August Minor Hurling Final v St. James at 7pm in Skibbereen ( St. Colums won the Minor C Hurling title for the second year in a row and for the third time in four years by defeating St.James by 2-10 to 3-3. St.Colums opened the scoring with a long range point by Matthew O Shea but St.James won most of the early exchanges and raced into a 2-2 to 0-1 lead after the first quarter. St.James seemed to be winning most of the individual battles but the Colums lads gradually eased themselves into the contest scoring four unanswered points. A goal from Graham Goggin on the stroke of half time meant the sides entered the break level at 2-2 to 1-5. St. Colums dominated the entire second half. Stephen Casey was very assured in goal and dealt with many dangerous aerial threats. His long range clearances to the half forward line were crucial to the colums dominance. Martin Hurley and Daniel Lucey in the full back line grew in stature as the game progressed. David O Mahony at centre back provided a captains leadership and was ably assisted by Shaun O Leary and Alan O Sullivan on either side. Matthew O Shea was a collosus at midfield. Paudie Cronin, Ben Murphy, Brian O Sullivan and Shane O Mahonywhen introduced worked tirelessly throughout. Eoin O Sullivan really came into the game in the second half and it was really the move he made to set Graham Goggin up for his second goal of the night which was the pivotal score of the match. Despite the concession of a third goal St.Colums never really looked like surrendering their lead in the final exchanges. John O Shea and William Hourihane deserve great credit for the work put in all year with this group of players and they may even guide them to further success in the county competition yet!
Tue 3rd August U-14 Football v Durrus ( this game was won 4-14 to 2-10)
Tue 27th July U -14 Football Championship S.F. v Argideen Rangers at 7.30 in Drimoleague ( A great victory in a thrilling contest by 4-16 to 4-13. St.Colums trailed at half time by 2-9 to 3-8. The concession of a few early goals meant Colums faced an uphill battle but each player played a starring role thereafter. Darren Murphy and Ian Hurley were immense in the full back line.
